Our foes strengthen us

As  the  work  of  God  progresses  in  my  church our  foes  have  trained   their  arrows, bullets ,  clubs  and  axes   (figuratively speaking) at  us. This  month  is  critical  for us.  Please  remember  us  in   prayer.
The  following  article  which  I   found   on the blog
SIMPLY DIVINE LOVE  affirmed my  trust  and belief   that  God  is  with  us and He   is  fighting  our  battles
Strengthened by Your Foes

Pastor Adrian Rogers

“Only rebel not ye against the Lord, neither fear ye the people of the land; for they are bread for us: their defense is departed from them, and the Lord is with us: fear them not.” - Numbers 14:9

Joshua and Caleb faced formidable foes in the Promised Land, and yet what was their response to their enemies? “They are bread for us.” (Numbers 14:9).

What is bread? It is the staff of life. What happens when you eat bread? You are strengthened by it and you grow by it.

Paul also faced formidable foes. He wrote, “For a great door and effectual is opened unto me, and there are many adversaries” (1 Corinthians 16:9).

Why isn’t the door to victory easy? Because if it were easy, then you would become weak in your effort to work out your faith in God. God places obstacles in your path to give you strength. “Wheaties” is not the breakfast of champions— giants are. God wants you to feed upon your difficulties and depend upon Him to make you a conqueror.

What does it take to strengthen your body? What does it take to build your intellect? What does it take to grow love in relationships? Work. Read Philippians 2:12-13 and apply it to your life today.

It's The Lord's Battle

An enemy unto thine enemies. - Exodus 23:22

It is a most helpful thought that the angel of the covenant in whom is God's name, always precedes us. In our march through the wilderness we perceive His form, which is viewless to others, and realize that His strong hand prepares our path. Let us be very careful not to grieve or disobey Him, lest we lose His mighty championship. Strict obedience to His slightest whisper secures the certainty of His vindication of us from the wrongs we suffer at the hands of our foes. A little further on the same voice promises to send a hornet before the chosen host (Exodus 23:28). He who is an angel to the saint is a hornet to his foes. A swarm of hornets is the most relentless and irresistible foe that man can face.

Have you enemies?Be sure that they hate you only for the truth's sake, and because darkness must always be in antagonism to light. "Who is he that will harm you, if ye be followers of that which is good? But and if ye suffer for righteousness' sake, happy are ye: and be not afraid of their terror, neither be troubled." But see to it that you cherish no spirit of hatred or retaliation toward them. Think of the misery of their heart, which is full of jealousy, envy, and bitterness. Pity and pray for them.

When we are right with God we shall have many new enemies. All who hate Him will hate us. But this is rather to our credit than otherwise. Those who have defamed the master of the household will be hostile to his servants. But when our cause is one with God's, and His foes ours, our foes are His, and He deals with them; He stands between us and their hate. He will not leave us in their hands; He will give us vindication and deliverance

Tho He slay me...

Winter  Flowers

My  dear  friends  thank  you  for  sending  us   good  wishes  and  assurances   of  prayer.
That  has  kept  our  spirits,  faith
and  physical  reserves  up in  these  past  few   days.

Apart  from  knee  exercises Mama  has  to  take  complete  bed  rest. Its  hard  to  just  lie  flat  on  your
back and  turn  a  few  times.
She  gets  irritated,  lonely  and  bored,
sometimes   angry  too.Sister  Namrita  is
nursing  her  day  and  night and  me
helping. My  elder  sister  and  BIL  are on  their way to  India.
That  is  a  great  comfort.
On  YouTube  I  show  mom  her
favourite  soaps - to  cheer  her  up.
We  have  family  prayers  and  I  read  scriptures  aloud  to  her and  play  Christian  music.
Our  lives  are  centred  around   our  mother.
Namrita's  11  year  old  Rayguel  plays ball,  or  with
Sheeba. He  watches  cartoons  and  plays  games  .
Hard  to   keep  him occupied,  but  he  doesn' t  complain.  He   is  a  good    boy.
Its  very  cold  here  that  is  making  life
difficult.  But  we thank  God  for
the  warm   clothes  we  have
and  a  little  space heater
for  Mom.
Besides  dealing  with  our  mother 's
illness we  have  facing  some  very
deep  troubles  and  trials.
I  cannot  share  anything  here.
The  devil  is  trying  to  crush  us  and   tear  us  apart.
Its  like   the  Anti Christ  of  the   book
of  Revelation.
I went  through  a  period  of  shock
and  emotional  upheaval.
But  prayer,  reading the  scriptures and  help  from  strong  believers has  kept us  strong
and  stable.
All  this  we  are  hiding  from  Mom,  as  it  will
be  detrimental to her recovery.
we  are  like  on  an  emotional roller
coaster -  up  and  down.
But  always  feeling  the  presence of  God.
We  remain  strong  in  this  evil day.
And  with  Job  I  will  say,
"Tho He  slay me
yet  will  I  trust  Him".
(Job 13;14)

We  need your  prayers
and  support.
Pray  for  our safety.
P.S.
I  am  slowly  visiting   blog  friends.
My  physical energy is low.

Haters of Good

We  are  living  in  a  very  violent  world. Hatred, like  garbage is  strewn across the  earth  invading  our  lives  and consciousness with its  stench  and disruption.

I  awoke to  news  of  different  kinds  of  violence.
Three  serial  bomb  blasts  in Mumbai , yesterday July 13th and a  news report of  an innocent  Pastor and  his  wife  being  beaten up and persecuted  for the  sake  of  Christ, in  the western part of  my  state.

In  the  evening I had  to  stand  up  to verbal resistance  from  Jags who is  our  church helper. He  is  a  good   man  but   suffers  bad  moods . I  try to overlook this  as he  does   a  lot  of  good.

All  this   disturbed  me  quite  a  bit  but   along   came  Milka (Pastor 's  daughter) who  wanted  my  help  with  her  English  assignments, letter  writing  and  a news  report. That  eased  my  mind.

She  told  me  something which  really  amused   me. Two  days  ago I  helped  her  with another  English  assignment. Her teacher was  so  pleased  with it  that  she  dictated it  to  the  entire   class  to  note  down. Har-har!
Coming back to what  I  was   writing  about .The  devil  is  not  at  rest  my  friends. He is  assaulting  the  earth in many  forms be  it terrorism,   angry  blood thirsty  mobs or  a  subordinate whom  you  have  to  deal  with  everyday.

The  Bible  gives a very  accurate  account to  today' s  world .

1But understand this, that in the last days there will come times of difficulty. 2For people will be lovers of self, lovers of money, proud, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, 3heartless, unappeasable, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not loving good, 4treacherous, reckless, swollen with conceit, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, 5having the appearance of godliness, but denying its power. 2  Timothy 3;1-5

Three near-simultaneous explosions have shaken India's commercial capital

Mumbai (Bombay), police say,
Twenty-one people were killed and 113 injured, said Maharashtra state's Chief Minister, Prithviraj Chavan
He called the explosions, during Mumbai's busy evening rush-hour, "a co-ordinated attack by terrorists"
One explosion was reported in the Zaveri Bazaar, another in the Opera House business district and a third in Dadar district in the city centre.

Police sources were reported as saying the explosions were caused by home-made bombs.

The attacks are the deadliest in Mumbai since November 2008 when 10 gunmen launched a three-day co-ordinated raid in which 166 people were killed

BBC News, Mumbai
--------------

Dadar is one of the old areas of Mumbai, in the middle of the city. The blast here happened in a very crowded area with lots of shops and residential buildings.
The blast here was not powerful. Police have said the explosion in Zaveri Bazaar was stronger.

Police say the timing of the blast - 1900 - is significant. This was the height of the evening rush hour - it was designed to cause maximum panic and casualties.
One person asked why Mumbai is always the target of attacks.
However, many of the people gathered here now are merely onlookers curious to see what has happened. People have come from nearby areas to see what is going on.
There is no evidence of real panic here
But in other parts of the city, the story is grimmer. There is panic and people are rushing back home.

Anger and curiosity in Mumbai

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh denounced the bombings and appealed to Mumbai residents "to remain calm and show a united face".

US President Barack Obama strongly condemned the "outrageous" attacks, and offered "support to India's efforts to bring the perpetrators of these terrible crimes to justice".

High alert

The latest explosions hit the city as workers were making their way home.

The first struck the Zaveri Bazaar at 1854 (1324 GMT), tearing through the famed jewellery market, according to police. A minute later, a second blast hit the busy business district of Opera House, in the south of the city. At 1905, the third bomb exploded in the Dadar area of central Mumbai.

Because the explosions occurred within minutes of each other, "we infer that this was a co-ordinated attack by terrorists", Home Minister Palaniappan Chidambaram told reporters.

Mumbai had been put on a state of high alert and a commando team was standing by, he said. Delhi, the capital, Calcutta and several other cities have also been put on alert.

Forensics teams have been sent from Delhi and Hyderabad to examine the explosion sites.

The majority of Mumbai's people live in slums, and millions live on the streets. This cannot make for a very happy place and the city's 'resilient spirit' has now become the cruellest Indian cliche

Soutik Biswas
BBC News, Delhi
------------------
The authorities have not yet said who they believe might be behind the explosions and no group has said it carried them out.

In Zaveri Bazaar, witnesses described a motorcycle exploding next to a jewellery shop. Mumbai Police Commissioner Arup Patnaik said a bomb had been left in an abandoned umbrella.

Photographer Rutavi Mehta told the BBC he was shopping nearby and heard the explosion. He grabbed his camera and ran to the scene.

"I took a couple of photographs. I think they might be too graphic for broadcast," he said.

"Bodies and limbs were strewn everywhere. People were crying and screaming. The area was packed with shoppers at the time of the blast. A few offered assistance to the blood-soaked victims, while others looked on in a state of shock," he said.

"It was totally chaos. There were pools of blood everywhere."

The second and most powerful blast was in the nearby Opera House district. Local media said it was planted inside the two-storey Prasad Chamber building.

Mumbai has been targeted many times in recent years, most notably in 2008 In the central Dadar district, the bomb tore apart a taxi that was parked next to a bus stop, witnesses told the BBC. It was unclear whether the explosives were planted inside the vehicle or in a nearby electricity meter box.

"I heard a loud explosion. And then I saw people with serious injuries lying in pools of blood," another person told the Times of India.

An unexploded bomb was also reportedly been found in Dadar.

The choice of locations makes it clear that the blasts were intended to cause maximum casualties, says the BBC's Soutik Biswas in Delhi.
But footage of one of the blast sites - a ripped-off cover of a bus shelter and a car with its glass shattered - points to a medium-level and possibly crude explosion, adds our correspondent.

According to some reports, the blasts came on the birthday of Mohammad Ajmal Amir Qasab, the sole surviving gunman from the 2008 attacks. But court records show his birthday to be in September.

Those attacks, which targeted two high-end hotels, a busy train station, a Jewish centre and other sites frequented by foreigners, were blamed on the Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba militant group.

Pakistan was quick to condemn the latest explosions, in a statement issued by the foreign ministry.
Peace talks between Pakistan and India have only recently resumed since they were broken off after the 2008 attacks.
Mumbai has been targeted many times in recent years.

As well as the 2008 attacks, co-ordinated blasts on seven of the city's trains on 11 July 2006 caused massive loss of life. More than 180 people were killed and hundreds wounded in those bombings, which were blamed on Islamist militants.

The city suffered four bomb attacks during 2003, including twin blasts on 25 August 2003 which killed 52 people.

In 1993, 257 people were killed and 700 injured in a series of 12 bomb blasts across the city. The attacks were allegedly ordered by the Muslim-dominated underworld in retaliation for Hindu-Muslim riots.

Pastor, Wife Beaten in Uttar Pradesh

On 3 July, an angry mob accused Pastor John C.V Samuel from Assembly of
God's Church (AGC) of forceful conversion, beat him up and his wife in
Manpuri, Uttar Pradesh
The incident took place when Pastor Samuel, his wife and some believers went
to attend the burial service of Anil Saxena, who attended Pastor Samuel's
church for the past two years. Saxena committed suicide on Saturday night
after he had an argument with his father, reported our correspondent.
The angry mob suddenly rushed on the pastor and his wife, mercilessly beat
them up and falsely accused them of forceful conversion and of being the
cause of Saxena's death.

Saxena's wife intervened and told the mob that they went to the church by
their own free will and nobody has forced them.
The pastor's wife called the police by phone. The police arrived at the
scene and rescued the couple from the angry mob and took them to the
Pushpanjali Hospital, Agra where they were admitted.

Area Christian leaders submitted a police complaint but no actions have been
taken at press time.

Kindly pray for Pastor Samuel and his family and for peace in the area

An Appeal to write to Authorities

As concerned people, kindly write to the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh
appealing to them to safe guard the rights of the minority communities and
to give protection to churches against attacks and to take immediate action
against the perpetrators of violence.

A Roaring Lion

Today  as  I   was   handling   a  church  business  matter  an unknown  man  threatened  and challenged  me  and  tried  to  intimidate  me.

He  appeared to  be   anti- Christian  and  mentally  deranged.

After  assessing   the  situation I withdrew from there because  I thought  it  was  best  not  to  respond to  a  person with  evil  and mischievous  intentions.

I  know  he  was  sent  by  the  devil  to  threaten  me. I  feel  that   very  strongly. It  was  like  the   opposition  Nehemiah   faced when he  was  building  the  walls. Like  the abuses Jezebel showered  on  Elijah.

My faith and courage  is  being  tested  and   I  will not  turn  back.

In India  women are  not  secure and Christian women more  so.

I ask for  prayers  for  protection and safety - a hedge  of   angels  all  around  our church campus. Wisdom ,  courage and spiritual  strength.

I  will not  give  in to the devil 's  threats. I   have  faced  criminals  before and  God  has  protected  me and  the  entire  church  campus.

The  Lord   brought  the  following scriptures  to  me as  I  reflect   upon the  disturbing incident.

1 Peter 5
6 Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time;

7 casting all your anxiety upon him, because he careth for you
8 Be sober, be watchful: your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour,
9 whom withstand stedfast in your faith, knowing that the same sufferings are accomplished in your brethren who are in the world.

10 And the God of all grace, who called you unto his eternal glory in Christ, after that ye have suffered a little while, shall himself perfect, establish, strengthen you.  (New  Testament -ASV)

For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places

Masked men attack Christian prayer meet
Apr 18 2010
A group of masked men attacked a Christian prayer meet in remote Sarni area of Betul district in Madhya Pradesh, police said on Sunday. Locals claimed that a man died in the resulting melee after he jumped into a well in panic.
According to eyewitnesses, the man died due to the ruckus on Saturday night created by the miscreants, allegedly belonging to "rightist organisations".
"The incident took place around 8.30 pm at Saliya village where around eight to nine masked men forced their way into the Christian prayer meeting, attacked the organisers, damaged their vehicles and fled," Sub-Divisional officer (Police) Abhishek Rajan said.
"Later, the police found a body floating in a well, located 400 meters from the prayer venue. According to the locals, the man was attending the meeting and jumped into the well in panic when the miscreants attacked," he said.
"The police are yet to ascertain whether his death was related to the attack as his body was found floating within two hours of the commotion while medical experts say that it takes at least 12 hours for a body of a drowned person to surface," Rajan said.
Several attacks on Christian meets have been witnessed in the past in tribal-dominated Balaghat district also with the latest one on April 15 when some miscreants, allegedly belonging to rightwing Hindu groups, stormed a function organised by a Protestant group and attended by over 5,000 people.
Father Lijo Antony, assistant parish priest of the lone Catholic church in the area, said: "Hindu groups tried to forcibly enter the venue alleging the programme was aimed at converting gullible tribal people."
The police imposed prohibitory orders in the area after the incident. The administration also gave protection to 23 Protestant pastors working in the area, the priest said.
Although the district is in Madhya Pradesh, it comes under Nagpur archdiocese in Maharashtra.

Please continue to pray for the advancement of God' s kingdom in India
Like I said in my comment ,life is very difficult for me as a single , physically challenged woman in a male dominated, very often hostile and intimidating society.I feel very insecure at times. The demons of crime and discrimination hover around us, breathing down our necks. But self pity is one enemy I have learnt to keep at bay. Self pity is the first crack in the wall before the entire wall comes crashing down.
Sometimes feeling very weak myself I have encouraged and admonished others.
"My health may fail and my spirit may grow weak, but God remains the strength of my heart,He is mine forever" Psalm 73;26
This afternoon, when the lights went out for the umpteenth time in the 110* heat I read the following poem from Henri Nouwen 's book 'With Open Hands
Hope means to keep living
amid desperation
and to keep humming
in the darkness
Hope is knowing that there is love
it is trust in tomorrow
it is falling asleep
and waking again
when the sun rises
In the midst of a gale at sea
it is to discover land.
In the eyes of another
it is to see that you are understood...
as long as there is hope
There will also be prayer...
And you will be held
in God' s hands.
"For I satisfy the weary ones
and refresh everyone who languishes." Jeremiah 31;25 (Bible)

Churches burnt in Punjab

A few days ago I read in the newspapers that Christian schools in the north eastern city of Shillong had complained about a school text book containing a caricature of Christ with a cigarette and beer can. They withdrew the book from their syllabus. The publish hing house apologized and recalled the objectionable books and people who returned the books got their money back.
But things were not so in Punjab. Below is a media report.
India consists of a multi religion society. We must learn to respect each other 's views and
live peacefully.Christian are soft targets as we silently bear persecution.
We are also ridiculed and mocked just as Jesus was.

A northern Indian industrial town was put under curfew today following violence over pictures caricaturing Jesus. It was lifted at 1 p.m. today [Feb. 22]. Suspected Hindu radicals reportedly attacked three churches after a general strike called by some Christians turned violent at Batala in Punjab state’s Gurdaspur district on Feb. 20. Christians were protesting posters showing the Sacred Heart of Jesus with a beer can in one hand and a cigarette in the other that had appeared in Jalandhar, another city in Punjab, earlier in the day. Father Michael Anikuzhikattil, parish priest of Gurdaspur, told UCA News that a general strike was in force in Gurdaspur district on Feb. 21. According to him, “the objectionable posters” hurt Christians, who form 25 percent of the district’s population. The priest said more than 1,000 Christians attended a meeting with the district officials earlier in the day.
."Father Peter Kavumpuram, the local diocesan spokesperson, said that as soon as the posters appeared, a Catholic delegation led by Bishop Anil Couto of Jalandhar met authorities to seek action against those responsible. The government took two days to arrest the culprits. Police yesterday [Feb. 21] arrested Pritpal Singh, an Ayurveda doctor responsible for putting up the poster. His accomplices were arrested today. Father Kavumpuram said Catholic and other established Churches, did not organize protests following the administration’s assurances. They urged people to keep calm and accept the incident as part of their Lenten penance, Father Kavumpuram added. However, other smaller Christian sects ignored the plea and organized protest marches in various parts of Gurdaspur. They met at a Methodist church in Batala and went to the local administration office to submit a memorandum. On their way, someone in the group shouted slogans against a Hindu radical group and that triggered violence. The Christian protesters looted shops and destroyed some motorcycles. Police and local people beat up this group. Then, a Hindu mob attacked two churches and burned another, all belonging to Protestant Churches. The police arrested many Christian youths. Father Kavumpuram said as soon as the Hindu radicals retaliated, leaders of the Christians protesting fled the scene. About 300 Christian youths from the affected areas attended a meeting the Catholic Church convened at Fatehgarh on Feb. 20 to take stock of the situation. Church leaders urged the youth to refrain from indulging in violence.
10Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
11"Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me. 12Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you. Matthew 5 New Testament
