Today  is  my  mother 's  first  birthday  in  heaven. I want  to  share  a  childhood  favourite in  her  memory.  A  song  I  sang  from  a little  paperback  booklet  I  had.It  talks  about  the  hope  and  confidence  we  have  as  Christians.

Sunday Blessings -A Mini Christmas Story

Inspired  by   my  friend  John  Cowart  who  made  a video called Christmas  in  a Tin Box ,  I  made  this  video which  could  be  called Christmas  in  a Cardboard  Box with  the  help of  a creche  sent  to   me  by   my  Texan friend Holly.

Jesus  was  born  among the poor, the  hungry, the  disadvantaged  and the  unloved. He came to an ordinary family among  ordinary people. He came as a Saviour- on a rescue  mission to redeem and to liberate.

The  Lord  is   good.  My  appointment  on  Tuesday  went  well and  I achieved  success.The  Lord   is mindful  of   His  people  and  He knows  how  to  meet their   needs. God  fulfiled  Psalm  22;22,29  in  my  life. I  feel   poor,  powerless, lost,  lonely and  hurting - and  I  receive His  kindness and  grace.

Sunday Blessings- Aradhna- Adoration

A   couple of  years    ago  I  discovered  the  Indo-American band  called Aradhna (worship  in  Hindi). It  is  a  fusion of  Classical  Indian  and  Western  music. The  lyrics  are  in Hindi and  some  Sanskrit (our  ancient language) . They  have  also  songs   in  Nepali. Some  members  of  this band  grew up  in  India - so  our language, culture  and  music   was  second  nature   to   them.

The  video I  am  posting here  is   based  on  the  Beattitudes - the  teaching of  Jesus  from  Matthew 6. The  music   and video  will  bring  you  closer  to  India

It is impossible to listen to Aradhna without a sense that something much deeper is brooding under the music. Spirituality is such an easy term to throw around when speaking about a thing you can’t explain but nonetheless feel. It’s a term that breeds ambiguity and at times, misunderstanding. Nonetheless it is a word that is necessary in describing the formation and subsequent work of Aradhna. After all, the name of the band is the spiritually charged Hindi term that means “adoration.” Popular music is often made to settle into the nooks and crannies of our daily humdrum, like an elixir against the pain of human existence. We drink it in and feel a bit better but we don’t expect it to change anything beyond our emotional state. Aradhna is a band with higher aspirations, making music that is centered around spiritual enlightenment and transformation while keeping ethnic integrity intact.

We live in an an age where cross-cultural musical projects are a dime a dozen, and all too often they result in a half-baked, watered-down muddle of eclectic instruments banging into each other. The sitar was introduced to rock and roll way before many of us were born. World music has been around long enough to go in and out of style many times over. Western attempts at eastern music is an arena where many more fail than succeed. It’s a road that is fraught with cultural and aesthetic baggage that ensnares all but a few who have managed to produce something worth listening to. Aradhna is among the few who have created a new and enduring sound out of diverse musical traditions of North India and North America.

Somehow, Aradhna has been able to glide past the subterfuge of globalization and establish itself as a band that is genuinely interested in creating cross-cultural dialogue through the arts. They are the real deal and they sing in a bunch of languages and people from all over the world are listening to their music.

Aradhna’s front man Chris Hale writes, “…my passion in life is to build bridges between cultures. A good bridge builder has a strong foundation on his own side and then builds a strong foundation on the other side, and then he crosses over.” Strong foundations are indeed one of the defining characteristics of Aradhna’s founding members. Chris Hale, an American, spent his childhood and adolescence in South Asia, where he gained fluency in Nepali and Hindi. It was in these formative years that Chris began to study the sitar and develop a love for bhajans, the classical devotional genre of India, and particularly of Hindus. In 1991 Chris formed the rock fusion band Olio and toured all across India for 6 years before releasing their first Hindi album Naam Leo Re (1997). Later that year, American guitarist and vocalist Pete Hicks returned to India, the land of his birth, to join the band in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. Olio concluded its final tour in 1999 and soon after Hale and Hicks reunited in London. Soon the two friends began a new collaboration that would evolve into Aradhna.

As soon as Chris and Pete had enough material for an album, they decided to record in the U.S. where they met up with bassist Travis McAfee. The three of them had an instant rapport, as Travis spent part of his childhood traveling to Africa, India, and throughout Southeast Asia.

In the spring of 2000, Deep Jale′ was recorded, which they decided to release in the U.K. over the course of a three-month tour. Aradhna was born, and the ardent response to their album and performances encouraged them to continue arranging traditional bhajans and begin composing songs of their own for their next release Marga Darshan (2002). After performing extensively in India and North America, Aradhna’s touring expanded to the South Asian Diaspora in South Africa, Guyana and Suriname where East Indians have lived for over a century.

During this time Aradhna self-released three more notable records and gained new audiences as diverse as the music itself. From the beginning, Aradhna has chosen to remain independent from the support of the record industry in order to stay true to their artistic vision. As each new offering surpasses the last, their decision to maintain creative control has certainly made for better art and more innovative collaborations with the likes of Ric Hordinski, Naren Budhakar and Jim Feist, among others.

Now Aradhna is releasing their most ambitious and far-reaching project yet, their sixth album Namaste Saté, along with a companion DVD Sau Guna, a collection of music videos filmed in Varanasi, India. The intimate and immense sound of Namaste Saté not only builds upon the best of their preceding albums but deepens the possibilities of cultural and spiritual contextualization in the most winsome and genuine of ways. Until you experience their new album and DVD together, you cannot fully appreciate the degree to which Aradhna is achieving its goal to produce a prodigious body of work and build lasting bridges between disparate communities throughout the world. Clayton 's Story

I  know  this  soul  stirring   video  will  touch  your  heart.  Clayton  is a  teenager who  has  suffered  from leukemia most  of  his  life. But  death  and  suffering does  not  frighten  him.  He  is a  living  example  of  the  Bible  verse ,"For  me  to  live   is  Christ  to  die   is  gain". (Phillipiann 1:21)

Clayton inspires  me  to  live  my  life  in  a meaningful way ,keeping  eternity  in  perspective.  Many  of  us  are  suffering  or  have  loved  ones  who are  at  eternity 's door. Clayton   will encourage  you.

Sunday June 12 is Pentecost Sunday. God  has  given  me  an opportunity  to  share in  church.

I had  my  blood  pressure  randomly  checked   and  found  it  was  high  specially  systolic. I  am on medication,  perhaps the   holiday  treats  with Sonia  and  Abner  affected  it. I 've  cut   down  on salt  drastically
and we  are  eating   low  calorie  food, which we  usually  do.

Obstacles

caught  in  a  traffic  jam sometime  ago.

so I covertly took  a  photo

with my cell  phone)

It  was  the  cooler  season.

You  will  notice  people  wearing  pull overs.

The man   on  the  motorcycle  has a gun

slung  over  his  shoulder.

He  is  probably  a private  security guard.

Guards  who  own  a  licenced gun

are  better  paid   than  the unarmed ones.

Traffic   is  pretty  chaotic  around  town.

The  city  has  been  given  a  grant  by  the  World  Bank

to  lay   down  sewage  pipes and  underground

drainage system which  they have  to

finish before  the  monsoons  set in.

They  are  doing  it  in  a  haphazard

disorganized  manner.

Digging  up  roads, causing  traffic  disruptions,

dusty environment and  commuting  dangers.

The  dug  up  roads  are  not  repaired   properly,

Its dangerous to  move  over them.

Everybody  is   complaining   about  the  dust

all  this  is  kicking  up.

Throat and  lung infections

and   allergies  have  increased.

Many  people  have  complained  that  they  don 't  like

to step  out  of  their  homes

unless  they  have to  on 

important  business.

Morning  walkers  are  refraining

from  their  daily  exercise.

Everybody is  very  angry about  this.

I  too  avoid  passing  through  the  dug  up  areas.

Till  now  they  have  not  come

to  our  vicinity but

one  day  they will-

then  the  fun  will  begin LOL!

Well life is  full  of  its daily

obstacles, troubles  and  trials.

One  can 't  escape  from  them.

Last evening  we  were without  electricity  for 4  hours.

Between 7pm to  11 pm...

with  the darkness,  mosquitoes and heat

to  keep us company.

But  we  were better  off than  some  areas  which  did  not  have  power the  whole  day

and  water too.

You  just cannot  complain.

Complaining   will  make  you   sicker

than  you  probably  are.

Just  make  the  best   of  what you  have.

Since   the  past  few  days  I 've  been

having  dizzy  spells with  heaviness  in  my  head.

Could  be  a  spondylitus

or  middle  ear problem.

I  am  also  allergic  to

temperature  changes.

I  have  to  take  medication  and  lie  down

for  more  than  an  hour.

My  hands,arms  and  knees  also  get

inflamed and  I  have  to  take  painkillers.

Sonia 's  company  is  a   real

boost  and  help.

They are  leaving  on Sunday  morning

and  we  will  miss  them.

Anyway we have  much  to  be thankful  to  God  for.

Saint  Paul  in

Phillipians  3:1  says

"Finally  my  brothers

rejoice  in  the  Lord".

I  found this  quote  from Resurgence

really helpful.

I  will  reproduce  the  whole  article  later on.

By making the choice to rejoice in the Lord in the midst of unpleasant circumstances, we will guard ourselves against fear, doubt, double-mindedness, and the discouragement that comes from opposition.

Thank  you  for   your   prayers  and  loving  thoughts my   dear  friends.
The  battle   is  not  mine  but the Lord 's  and  He   has  given  me  strength and  victory. Glory  to His  name. I  just  have  to  exert  my  faith   and He  will  do  the  rest. I 've  had  anxious and discouraging  moments
 but   the  Lord  brought   me  out  of  them.

I  believe  it  is   a  privilege  and  honor  and blessing to  face  hostility  for  His   name  sake. I   have  it  good , friends -  my  brethren  are  suffering  much  more.
11 Blessed are ye when men shall reproach you, and persecute you, and say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake.

Sunday Blessings - Hit Unawares

Ever experienced walking down a pathway and you suddenly get hit by a low hanging branch or you foot pierced by a cruel thorn?

Well. I have.

 

Offenses and criticisms sometimes knock us down as surprise punching  bags when we are working out in the gym of life.

We can either let them tone our spiritual and emotions muscles

or knock out our breath and leave us permanently damaged.

Sunday Blessings - Revival Time

From  Thursday  to Sunday I  attended   evening  revival   meetings at  the  Seminary. Bro Ashok  Vedanayagam (left)  was  the   speaker. He  brought  us   the  Word  of  God  in  a   fresh  and  powerful way. He  kept  his  audience  captivated  by  his  practical  insights,  personal  anecdotes   and  teaching   about  family  life.

The  children  were  having  their  own meetings in  the  High  School  building  near  the  church. On the  last  day they  presented  a  song.

Worship  team

Many  people  walked   forward for  prayer  and dedication. There  was much  rejoicing  in heaven.

The  young  and the  old  publicly  confessed  their  faith.

The   students  had  a  missions  stall  where

they  were  selling   various  food  item  and  snacks   with   tea

to  raise  money to  support   evangelists.

I bought  momos,  vadas, Korean pancakes

and  poori kebabs help  with

the  fund raising.

They  all we  delicious.

My nephew  and  friend  Megan are  having  a  good  time

with my  sister  Namrita  and  family

in  the North East.

They  will  be  arriving  in Alld.

on  Thurs (24th )  morning.

We  are  so  excited  and 

I  am  busy  preparing to welcome  them.

Please  pray  for  my  sister  Sonia

She  has  bronchitis with  a  painful ear

and  maybe  the  onset  of  diabeties.

She  wants  to  see nephew  Ash,  but

she  has  to  be  fit  to  travel.

Prayers for  her healing  are   needed.

Namrita  also  needs  prayers, she  has

bronchitis   too
